Electrical II: Safe Work Practices and NFPA 70E - Sioux Falls, SD
Did you know that energized work is only permitted under certain circumstances? Did you know energized work is only permitted to be performed by a qualified person? Can you identify what must be done to set up the work before energized work is permitted? Did you know all qualified persons performing energized work must be trained a minimum of every three years, and unqualified persons must also receive training where energized work is being performed? This virtual course is for qualified persons (e.g. electricians, technicians, maintenance), as well as supervisors, managers, foremen and safety personnel, to understand the various safe electrical work practices associated with performing energized electrical-work. The goals of this course are to help participants understand, implement and maintain a proper “Safe Electrical Work Practices” program. Discussion will include relevant safety standards under OSHA and NFPA 70E, including the most recent updates under NFPA 70E – 2024. Topics include:
- Nature and hazards of electrical energy
- Understanding “shock” hazards
- Understanding “arc-flash” hazards
- Safe electrical working conditions (i.e. Lock-out/Tag-out)
- Establishing work clearances
- Establishing approach boundaries
- Selection and use of electrical personal protective equipment
- Working around overhead power-lines
- Risk assessment, pre-planning and energized work permits
- Elements of a written “Safe Electrical Work Practices” Program
- Employee training requirements
There are NO prerequisites for this course. Completion of “Electrical I” is not required.
NOTE: The Minnesota Safety Council recommends trainers and supervisors renew their training every three years to remain apprised of changes and updates.
