Do you have employees operating warehouse and other “mast-climbing” forklifts? In both general industry and construction, OSHA requires that each operator be properly trained and evaluated prior to operating any powered industrial truck (PIT), and this training must be conducted by a person who has “the knowledge, training and experience to train operators and evaluate their competence”. Are your trainers qualified to facilitate proper training? This course is intended for trainers, as well as superintendents, managers, supervisors, foremen, and safety personnel, to understand design and loading principles, requirements and consensus standards, and the responsibilities of designated trainers. Topics include:
- Types of mast-climbing powered industrial trucks
- Design, loading and capacity
- Applicable regulatory and consensus standards
- Environmental factors
- Safe operation
- Inspections and maintenance
- Fall protection, falling-object/rollover protection and restraint
- Operator training and evaluation
NOTE: The Minnesota Safety Council recommends trainers and supervisors renew their training every three years to remain apprised of changes and updates.
See "Forklifts (Telehandlers): Fundamentals for the Trainer" for powered industrial trucks with telescopic booms.
